Alpaca fibre, sometimes mistakenly referred to as alpaca wool, is sorted into 22 distinct colours, ranging from blacks through browns and whites, and include subtle shades of maroon, peach and greys. Alpaca fibre can be blended into an infinite array of natural colours, including combinations that do not occur naturally. Alpaca fibre takes and retains dyes very well.

Alpaca fibre has little to no guard hair and no lanolin. It is unusually strong and resilient and has a rich silky sheen as well as being water resistant. As the fibres are hollow, garments are very light and incredibly warm. These and other qualities make alpaca fibre a highly prized  commodity in commercial textiles.
